علی عباس جلالپوری بیسویں صدی کے پاکستان کے ایک ممتاز فلسفی، محقق، مترجم، اور مصنف تھے جنہوں نے اردو زبان میں فلسفہ، سائنس، مذہب، اور معاشرت پر گراں قدر علمی سرمایہ چھوڑا۔ وہ نہ صرف علمی حلقوں میں بلند مقام رکھتے ہیں بلکہ ان کی تحریریں عوامی سطح پر بھی فکری روشنی کا ذریعہ بنی ہیں۔ ان کا سب سے معروف تعارفی لقب “سقراطِ جلالپور” ہے، جو اس بات کا غماز ہے کہ انہوں نے سچائی کی تلاش اور فکر کی آزادی کو اپنی زندگی کا نصب العین بنایا۔

علی عباس جلالپوری 1914 میں ضلع جھنگ کے قصبہ جلالپور میں پیدا ہوئے۔ وہ پیدائشی طور پر ایک تجسس پسند ذہن کے مالک تھے۔ اعلیٰ تعلیم حاصل کرنے کے بعد انہوں نے تدریس کے شعبے سے وابستگی اختیار کی اور گورنمنٹ کالج لاہور میں فلسفہ کے استاد کے طور پر کئی دہائیوں تک خدمات انجام دیں۔ ان کا اندازِ تدریس غیر روایتی، سوال انگیز اور فکری تحرک پیدا کرنے والا تھا۔

علی عباس جلالپوری نے اپنی کتب میں انہوں نے مذہب، روایت، جدیدیت، اور معاشرتی رویوں کا تجزیہ کرتے ہوئے ایک آزاد، لبرل، اور دلیل پر مبنی سوچ کی وکالت کی۔ وہ تقلید کے سخت ناقد اور تحقیق و اجتہاد کے قائل تھے۔ ان کا ماننا تھا کہ مسلمان معاشروں کی پسماندگی کی بڑی وجہ علم و فکر سے دوری اور تعقل سے انحراف ہے۔

جلالپوری کا اندازِ تحریر نہایت واضح، منطقی اور براہِ راست ہوتا تھا۔ وہ قاری کو چیلنج کرتے تھے کہ وہ مانے نہیں، سمجھے؛ اور سمجھے بغیر کوئی نظریہ قبول نہ کرے۔ ان کی تحریروں میں نہ صرف فکری بلندی ہے بلکہ ادبی چاشنی بھی پائی جاتی ہے، جس کی وجہ سے وہ عام قاری کے لیے بھی قابلِ فہم اور دلچسپ ہو جاتی ہیں۔

علی عباس جلالپوری اپنی زندگی میں کئی بار تنقید، مخالفت، اور مذہبی حلقوں کی جانب سے دباؤ کا شکار ہوئے، لیکن وہ اپنے نظریاتی موقف پر قائم رہے۔ ان کا کام آج بھی جدید اردو فکر کے لیے ایک سنگِ میل ہے۔

علی عباس جلالپوری وہ مفکر تھے جنہوں نے اردو زبان کو فلسفیانہ اظہار کی ایک نئی زبان دی۔ ان کی خدمات نہ صرف علمی میدان میں ہیں بلکہ وہ فکری آزادی اور عقلی جرات کی علامت بھی ہیں۔ آج جب پاکستان میں فکر و دلیل کی جگہ تعصب اور جذباتیت لیتی جا رہی ہے، جلالپوری کی تحریریں ہمیں یاد دلاتی ہیں کہ سوال اٹھانا، سوچنا، اور سچائی کی تلاش کبھی فراموش نہیں کی جا سکتی۔

Ali Abbas Jalalpuri: A Progressive Thinker and Philosopher

Ali Abbas Jalalpuri was a prominent philosopher, scholar, translator, and author from Pakistan in the 20th century, who left a significant intellectual legacy in Urdu literature, focusing on philosophy, science, religion, and society. He held a high position in academic circles, and his writings became a source of intellectual enlightenment at the public level as well. His most renowned honorary title, “Socrates of Jalalpur,” reflects his lifelong commitment to the pursuit of truth and the freedom of thought.

Ali Abbas Jalalpuri was born in 1914 in the town of Jalalpur, District Jhang. He was naturally a curious and inquisitive mind. After completing his higher education, he joined the teaching profession and served as a philosophy professor at Government College Lahore for several decades. His teaching style was unconventional, thought-provoking, and aimed at stimulating intellectual activity among his students.

In his books, Jalalpuri analyzed religion, tradition, modernity, and societal behaviors, advocating for independent, liberal, and rational thinking. He was a staunch critic of blind imitation and firmly believed in the importance of research and ijtihad (independent reasoning). He argued that the major cause of the backwardness of Muslim societies was their distance from knowledge and thought, and the rejection of reason.

Jalalpuri’s writing style was clear, logical, and direct. He challenged readers to not merely accept, but to understand; and to never embrace a theory without comprehension. His writings not only showcased intellectual depth but also had a literary charm, making them accessible and interesting even for the general reader.

Throughout his life, Ali Abbas Jalalpuri faced criticism, opposition, and pressure from religious circles, but he remained steadfast in his ideological stance. His work continues to be a milestone for modern Urdu thought today.

Ali Abbas Jalalpuri was the thinker who gave the Urdu language a new way of philosophical expression. His contributions are not only in the field of knowledge but also as a symbol of intellectual freedom and rational courage. Today, when in Pakistan, bias and emotionalism are taking the place of reasoned thought and argument, Jalalpuri’s writings remind us that questioning, thinking, and the pursuit of truth should never be forgotten.
